Information Access Toolkit

Have you ever wished that accurate and high quality information was readily available to give to your patients who have neurological conditions?

Quality Requirement 1 of the National Service Framework for Long-term Conditions states that "people with long-term neurological conditions... are to have the information they need to make informed decisions about their care and treatment and, where appropriate, to support them to manage their condition themselves."

The Brain and Spine Foundation were awarded a grant by the Department of Health in April 2004 to conduct a two year project, with the aim of helping people with neurological and other long-term conditions and their families to access information.

The outcome of the project is The Information Access Toolkit.

The toolkit does not add new information to the wealth that already exists, but signposts and links to reliable sources. There is a particular focus on the type of information that people with neurological conditions have said that they want more of, and that which health and social care professionals said they have problems accessing. However some of the information is more generic and will be useful for people with other conditions eg support for carers.
