Sahara Race

Mike McKerrow and James Thompson took part in the Sahara Race, a 250-kilometer foot race across the Sahara Desert, in October 2008. They have raised over £4,100 to support the work of the MS Trust.

The Sahara Race is a gruelling endurance event; part of the 4 Deserts series organised by 'Racing the Planet'. There are six stages ranging from 10 - 50 miles (20 - 80 kilometers) over seven days. Each competitor has to carry his or her own food, clothing etc. throughout the race in a backpack. The only support provided along the way is water, tents and medical assistance.

Mike said "It was very painful, hot, blisters, swollen joints etc.... I came in 105th out of 157 competitors (55hrs and 48 mins). James was not far behind in 113th (58hrs and 37 mins). Not bad considering the furthest we had both ran was a half marathon and the training was, er well lacking!"

The MS Trust would like to say a HUGE thank you to both Mike and James for their support and hard work.
