Primary Progressive MS Exposed
There is no book like this currently available for people with primary progressive MS.
The primary progressive MS (PPMS) book will:
- explore both the physical and emotional aspects of being diagnosed with PPMS
- provide information for people affected by a diagnosis of PPMS, and suggest ways of coping with it
Primary progressive MS (PPMS) is a particular type of MS, which affects 10-15% of all people diagnosed with MS. This means that there are 10,000-15,000 people with PPMS in the UK. To be given a diagnosis of MS is often hard to cope with but to be told that it is primary progressive can be especially challenging. Progression and advancing disability is often the major fear for everyone given a diagnosis of MS.
Drugs that are used to treat relapsing remitting MS are ineffective for PPMS, and there are few other treatment options. People with PPMS often tell us that they feel excluded and let down by the world of MS which tends to focus almost entirely on treatments for relapsing remitting MS.
The book will explore both the physical and emotional aspects of a PPMS diagnosis and ongoing management. It will also provide information for individuals given a primary progressive MS diagnosis which will help them to speak to their health professionals about their condition and possible management strategies.
We plan to print 15,000 copies of this book. Each copy will cost us £3.00 to produce and distribute. A donation of just £15 would pay for 5 copies.
