A to Z of MS CUPID
Cannabinoid Use in Progressive Inflammatory brain Disease
CUPID is a research trial looking at whether tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), one of the active ingredients in cannabis, can slow the increase of disability in people with progressive multiple sclerosis.
Other outcome measures include whether THC provides symptomatic relief for spasticity. The trial will also try to assess the long-term safety of cannabis-based medicines.
The trial, which began in 2006, involves 493 people at centres around the UK. The study is now complete with results expected later in 2012.
The MS Trust is funding the cost of MRI scans for this study.
