A to Z of MS Health Boards

Health Boards are organisations within the health service in Scotland that have been set up to develop and provide health services based on the needs of the local community. They act as the link between the Scottish Health Minister and the local NHS. They also have a role providing information about local services and about health improvement.

There are 14 Health Boards in Scotland. These are broadly equivalent to Strategic Health Authorities in England, and Health Boards in Wales and Northern Ireland.

From 2010 a pilot scheme will introduce elections for more than half the positions on boards.
